| * Immigrant
family 1717 to Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania ** It was thought that Jacob-1737 was KF11, son of KF1-John, grandson of KF-Isaac. (see AAMG86, page 159). But the DNA testing shows that this is not the case. Five KFC descendants in this chart, so far. See List 1 below. *3* Is this the same David as Steve Kauffman's David b. 1742 (in G9 )? Death date is 1804 in both cases. *4* Raymond says, "I cannot attest to the accuracy of this list. I have not researched much of out K. history, nor am I a genealogist. Our daughter supplied us with this list, ... " (David 1771 was a son of KFC, see MFH article page 203, so that part, at least seems accurate. ddk) *5* from MFH article, page 203 *6* Stanley says, " Below the === signs I know from personal knowledge and other primary sources. Above the === are from AAMG, CFK, and Gospel Herald/ Herald of Truth obituaries online." *7* Frank says, " I too have my "early generations in Switzerland" from a family source only. I think we must solve the "early generations in America" quandary before we head back to Europe. For all I know the generations before my Michael (d. ca. 1718 in Lancaster Co. PA, m. Anna Kniesele/Kniesley) are ephemeral. I only have the connection of his antecedents from family tradition (no birth records or marriage licenses or European solid proof that I've tracked down). I'm pretty darned positive from my own research on top of lots of family lore of my generations back to Michael (and his sons who went to VA: Martin [my direct ancestor] and Michael(whatever #?) and possibly David. Some sources suggest that Martin and Michael the Virginians were twins. There's fairly solid evidence that Michael (my American patriarch) was born in a Grunstad, Hess and not in the Steffisburg area -- although there were ongoing persecutions and troubles which caused lots of relocations and migration through Germany in order to, eventually, seek the New World. *8* Dean Franklin Coffman Jr. (Frank) says, "I should note that my Benjamin T. [Taylor?] Kauffman/Coffman gg grandfather was the son of Martin "Whitehouse" Kauffman, Jr. by a second marriage to Mary Taylor (likely the daughter of Hans Schneider ["taylor" in German]) and not Mary Lionberger -- who was mother of the older half-siblings. So there are various permutations. Also, line N (although not DNA tested), is likely accurate simply based on family history. Phillip Marion Kauffman was an important man in the Shenandoah Valley/Massanutten Mountain area after the Civil War. He was very active in community and historical business. |
