Notes:

1. Spelling variations on this chart: Kauffman (7), Kaufman (2), Coffman (1), Caughman (1)

*2* - A family researcher says, "My uneducated guess right now is that Solomon was the child of one of these men:  Hans Adam Kautzman or Johan Heinrich Kautzman, on the ship "Royal Union" -1750. The lists are notorious for misspelled names and this is the closest to Kauffmans that I see. In 1750 Solomon was 15 years old, therefore not on the ships list."

3. Years given here are known or suspected birth or christening years.

*4*. Two descendants of KF3 match. This is significant since KF3 has the best paper trail documentation of all the sons of KF. The ship's list links KF3 and KF. It is believed that the Isaac Kauffman found on the early Pennsylvania land maps is KF3.

Comments:

1. Early pedigrees based on the work of Charles Fahs Kauffman, "A Genealogy and History of the Kauffman-Coffman Families of North America 1584-1937", 1940 (KCL)

2. The single test from KF4, and two tests from KF5 match and also match the two tests from KF3. This supports the notion that KF3, KF4, and KF5 were all sons of KF-Isaac, the immigrant.

3. Column G shows a match with the descendants of KF-Isaac. The pedigree from this test shows the MRCA to be three generations back from KF-Isaac at K7-Niklaus. K7 never immigrated, so now we have a MRCA back in Europe, probably Switzerland. Also, this connection shows that the two immigrants, KF-Isaac and K7112-Andreas were second cousins.

4. Two of the immigrants in this chart were AMISH (KF-Isaac) and MENNONITE (K7112-Andreas). No doubt this reflects something about the "Great Schism" which occured in the 1690s amongst the Swiss Mennonites when Jacob Amman separated from the Mennonites to form a group which adopted his name.

May 27, 2007 "DNA results for John Nathan Kauffman"

Hello,
I am related to John Nathan Caughman whose DNA results matched yours.  Thank you all for doing the DNA testing.  John Nathan Caughman, George Pierson and I have been working on this line for many years and hopefully this will lead to a breakthrough.

I am descended from

Mary Catherine Caughman, who was my great grandmother.  She was the daughter of
Nathan Caughman, who was the son of
Alfred William Caughman and the grandson of
Nathan William Caughman Sr. who was born in KY in 1792.  Nathan Caughman Sr. was the son of
John Caughman/Coffman.

Our earliest know ancestor, John Caughman,  was killed on Barren Creek about eight miles from Bowling Green, KY in 1793 when his son was a year old. This is from a family booklet and lore.  I do not know how he was killed?? drowned?? Indians??  An Amish man who built my bookshelves told me that there was an Amish community near Bowling Green, KY.   As far as any of us know, Nathan may have been the only son of John Caughman so he might have died young, making his possible birth c1770 and his wife's name might be Louisa Cowan/Cowen, but that is story only and not proven.  The Graham and Bloyd families helped him and he came west to AR with them marrying one of their daughters in AR.  These families were in Green County, KY also.  Given names of the sons of Nathan were Alfred William, William, Seaborn Andrew, Nelson B., Taylor Isaac. Grandsons are named Isaac, Amos Alfred, John Riley, and Elmer Nelson.

I have a copy of the book titled "A Genealogy and History of the Kaufman-Coffman Families in North America 1531 to 1937 compiled by Charles Fahs Kauffman and am reading it looking for clues.  On pg. 2,  A112 there is a: John Kauffman---no trace.  He is preceded by a sister born in 1769.  This makes me wonder if this is a possibility for us. The time frame is possible.  These are children of Andrew Kauffman.  Are any of you descended from this line??  Please add me to your lists of family researching this DNA group.  My email is hdilt@swbell.net  and my name is Peggy Sue LaPorte.   Thank you for your time and any help we can find to connect to one another.
Best wishes,
Peggy
